'Walker Deluxe' is a F1, predominately male hybrid that produces high yields of tight green spears with slightly purple tips and bracts. This variety is very adaptable, cold and heat tolerant, and very disease resistant. Once established, asparagus is an extremely long-lived perennial plant producing delicious spears in April to May for up to 6-8 weeks, harvesting at 6-9 inches long with a pencil thickness or larger. Garden companion to basil, beets, parsley, and tomatoes; avoid the onion family. Plant in sunny, extremely well-drained, nutrient rich, neutral to slightly alkaline pH soil or containers amended with organic matter. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water, once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, following label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Divide crowns every 3-6 years in early spring.
