Alpine currant or Mountain Currant is a compact shrub that does best in well-drained soil. This dwarf, dense, mounded deciduous shrub is a male cultivar which bears no fruit. Its foliage emerges bright green, then deepens to a rich, darker green before turning yellow in the fall. Great as a low-growing hedge, border or in shady woodland areas. Do not plant near white pines since it is an alternate host of potentially fatal white pine blister rust.
