Thuja orientalis A unique, dwarf evergreen that develops a broadly upright to teardrop habit covered with wiry, slightly weeping, soft needled sprays of chartreuse to light green to golden foliage that turns orange-bronze in winter for fantastic year-round interest. This is a very slow grower, maturing to 5' tall after 10 years. Use as an easy foundation plant or in a landscape border for four seasons of interest. Plant with spirea, roses, barberry and ornamental grasses. Plant in well-drained, amended. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in early spring before new growth; shear by midsummer as needed. Fertilize in early spring, mid-summer, and fall with a slow-release fertilizer, according to package directions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
