Rhododendron is the big brother to Azalea, being in the same family but larger in habit, foliage, and flowering. These elegant broad-leaf evergreens produce, abundant clusters of 2" wide flowers around Mother's Day. 'PJM' is a handsome, small leaf, compact evergreen valued for its abundant lavender-pink, early spring flowers above bronze foliage. One of the most adaptable and easiest Rhododendrons to grow. Ideal for borders and woodland settings. A good choice for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, and mixed borders. The foliage is glossy, dark green and covers a dense rounded habit. Prefers protected, shady spots with well-drained, yet moist amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Fertilize in early spring, mid-summer and fall with an acidic fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Wrap in burlap or spray with Wilt-stop to protect from winter desiccation.
