Rhododendron 'Cunningham's White' 7 Gallon

Rhododendron 'Cunningham's White' 7 Gallon

Rhododendron spp.

Rhododendron is the big brother to Azalea, being in the same family but larger in habit, foliage, and flowering. An elegant, cold tolerant evergreen shrub with a dense, rounded habit that produces abundant, pale pink buds opening to funnel-like, two-inch, white, spring flowers with yellow to light brown spotting and lush, dark green foliage. Rhododendrons can be used for part shade foundation plantings, borders or hedges, and make very good pollinator attractants. Plant with ferns, Heuchera, and Astilbe. Best planted in northern or eastern exposure in well-drained but moist, acidic soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Fertilize in early spring, mid-summer and fall with an acidic fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Wrap in burlap or spray with Wilt-stop to protect from winter desiccation.
