Heuchera spp. Coral Bells, or Alum Root, are truly eye-catching foliage plants, and newer varieties have been improved by cross breeding with the native H. villosa to make them very cold hardy, heat resistant, and tolerant of various soil conditions. This plant's mounded habit and maple-like, nearly evergreen foliage is stunning for multiple seasons including spring, summer, and fall, and it performs well in garden beds and containers. The 'Fire Alarm' variety, bigger and brighter than 'Fire Chief', features glowing red foliage that commands attention as it emerges in spring. Then, bi-colored pink and white flowers rise on stems from summer to fall, while the scalloped foliage darkens to a brown-red.
