Dryopteris filix-mas

This large, arching fern possesses 3' long, medium green fronds with finely serrated leaflets. Combine with coral bells and Hosta. Plant in evenly moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Excellent shade garden color and texture.
