Japanese Painted Fern 'Metallicum' 1 Gallon

Athyrium niponicum var. pictum 'Metallicum'

This graceful fern has a low, arching habit featuring clumps of silvery-grey fronds enhanced with a red/maroon midrib. Warmer temperatures turn the silver fronds more green. Place in a container or grow in the shade garden with Hosta, bleeding heart and Astilbe. Plant in evenly moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Excellent shade garden color and texture, deer and rabbit resistance.
