Cultivated varieties of native coneflower have dramatically improved in recent years in order to bloom prolifically from their very first year from seed. They are exemplary magnets for butterflies and birds, and they perform wonderfully in sunny landscapes and containers, plus they offer great cold hardiness and they're very drought tolerant, once established. Sombrero® Fiesta Orange produces bright orange, non-fading, single and double flowers June through September on sturdy, compact, well-behaved plants. Plant in a moist but well-drained, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting, and maintain 1" of water, once per week, for the first year. Use a slow-release fertilizer in spring or at planting, and reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
