'Wild Berry' is an All America Selections winner and improved variety of the native purple coneflower that is bred for its darker red-purple flowers, compact floriferous habit, and long blooming period that starts in early summer and continues right into fall. Tidy in the landscape, this plant can also add fantastic color to mixed containers. It is highly adaptable in that it's able to tolerate poor soil, high heat, humidity, and even drought, once established. Plant in a moist but well-drained, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Combines well with Phlox, Tickseed, Blue Fescue, Black-Eyed Susan, and Shasta Daisy.
