Coreopsis verticillata

A hybrid variety of the Ohio native, threadleaf Coreopsis or tickseed, 'Butter Rum' offers large, showy flowers that develop a unique buttery-gold color with darker, sun-kissed edges and bronze centers. This variety is extremely cold hardy, disease and deer resistant, heat and humidity tolerant, and road salt tolerant. A very vigorous, continuously blooming perennial once it begins late spring into fall. Its dainty, finely-cut foliage adds a nice, soft texture in the perennial border. Combine with coneflowers, Salvias, and bellflowers. Shear after initial flowering to freshen up the foliage, if desired. Plant in well-drained to dry, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week, for the first year. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose fertilizer. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
