This F1 hybrid is an improved variety of an Italian heirloom, Costata zucchini. 'Pantheon' produces abundant yields of grey-green, ribbed, cylindrical fruit with distinctive pale green markings. This variety also develops a strong, upright, bushy habit with reduced spines for easier harvest. Its flavor is savory and nutty, delicious eaten raw, grilled, steamed or sauteed with some olive oil and garlic or tossed with pasta. Harvest at 6" long with the flower attached. Squash are excellent garden companions to sunflowers, corn, beans, cucumbers, other squash, and melons. Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil or containers amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, following label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
