'Red Buttercrunch' is a lovely dark red to maroon version of the classic buttercrunch lettuce. It is a vigorous grower with a creamy yellow to blushed red interior, buttery flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Small heads are perfect for a single-serve salad. The compact size makes it a good container variety, and it's also attractive in the flower-garden border. Fast-growing, tender, and tolerant of warm weather, harvest in the morning and often! This variety is excellent for containers or the garden. Lettuce is companion to carrots, radishes, strawberries, cucumbers, and beans. Plant in sunny, well-drained, nutrient rich soil or containers amended with organic matter. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water, once a week throughout the growing season. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, following label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
