A deep, dark purple, almost black versio of 'Genovese' Basil, this 'Amethyst' Basil is grown for its ornamental qualities as well as its culinary characteristics. As a plant, it brings beautiful contrast to container and herb gardens. Its aromatic leaves do bruise easily, and so it should be handled gently when harvested. As a culinary ingredient, the plant makes a great seasoning for pastas, pizzas, and sauces. It can also be consumed raw with olive oil, mozzarella cheese, and tomatoes! The plant is not cold tolerant to temperatures below fifty degrees, and so it should be kept indoors near a sunny window for the winter months.
