As a species native to North America, Berry Scape® Aronia thrives in a range of challenging conditions; tolerating heat, drought, and poor soil. Its first display in springtime is a cloud of nicely spaced white flowers that eventually turn into showy clusters of berries which ripen from yellow to orange to a vibrant red. Foliage turns a brilliant red in fall. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune as needed in late winter or after blooming in spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. Plant with other natives like Cardinal Flower Lobelia, Milkweed and Switch Grasses. A Proven Winners® variety.
