Aka Century Plant. This is an easy-care, impressive-looking, tropical, succulent houseplant that grows slowly in sunny spaces and well-drained, sandy soil. Each plant develops into a multi-layered rosette with thick, fleshy, blue-green to green leaves that end in a sharp point. With spiney tips and irritating sap, consideration should be given in selection and placement of this tropical succulent if children or pets are in the household. In northeast Ohio, tropical succulents can be grown indoors year-round or can be enjoyed outdoors in the summer and returned indoors during the winter. Plant in well-drained, cactus potting mix. Water thoroughly when soil is dry, pulling away from the sides of the pot. Fertilize in the spring with a cactus or slow-release houseplant food following the package directions.
