Braided Hibiscus are created from several young hibiscus plants trained early in their growth to form a beautifully braided topiary trees. Over time, some simple pruning will help them keep their shape. Tropical Hibiscus make an excellent woody plant specimen that is in high demand due to its ability to bloom profusely, tolerate very sunny, hot, humid conditions, attract pollinators, and be enjoyed year round - indoors as a winter houseplant and outdoors as a summer flowering tropical in Northeast Ohio. They make for excellent focal points in container gardens that can be grown in various shapes and sizes including bush, tree, and topiary forms. Plus, they can be placed anywhere from the porch and patio to the deck and garden border. Grow in full sun, 6+ hours of direct sun per day. When indoors, placement in a south or west-facing window with bright direct light is best. Prefers warm to average household temperatures, 65°-85°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles over winter. Feed with Osmocote or Miracle-Gro April-October. After a few fall frosts, prune heavily, back to green leaf nodes, and bring indoors for winter.
