Citrus x tangelo Std. indicates this plant has been trained into a standard, single stem tree form with a bushy canopy. Aka Honeybell, this wonderfully delicious citrus fruit is a unique cross between a tangerine, ('Dancy' mandarin orange), and a pomelo, ('Duncan' grapefruit). They inherit their sweetness and easy peeling from the tangerine, but their rich, juicy, tangy taste from the grapefruit. Fragrant white blossoms create a sweet aroma that develops into a large orange sized fruit with red-orange skin, and recognizable bump at the stem end producing a bell-shape, hence their Honeybell nickname. Tangelos do require a mandarin orange pollinator and take five or more years to develop fruit. Plant in a well-draining potting mix. Grow in full sun, 6+ hours of direct sun per day. Grow outdoors after last spring frost, bring back indoors after 1-2 light frosts in fall. Prefers warm to average household temperatures, 60°-85°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles over winter. Fertilize with an acidic fertilizer such as Citrus-tone April-September.
