A popular variety, 'Eureka' is a medium-sized, almost thornless, evergreen tree with a spreading, open growth habit. It is beloved for its ability to produce abundant crops of oblong, bright yellow fruit that is pleasantly fragrant, and thick-skinned. The fruit is that which you commonly find in the grocery store, juicy with a highly sour flavor and very few seeds. The flowers that develop into fruit are also extremely fragrant, making this variety a prime choice for scented container gardens. Growing dwarf citrus trees is extremely rewarding in Northeast Ohio due to their continuous, sweetly scented white blooms, their ability to produce fruit despite a shortened growing season, their compact habit, and their adaptability in container gardens to move inside for the winter months and out again onto the porch or patio come summer with glossy green oval leaves. Grow in full sun, 6+ hours of direct sun per day. Grow outdoors after last spring frost, bring back indoors after 1-2 light frosts in fall. Prefers warm to average household temperatures, 60°-85°F. Keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles over winter. Fertilize with an acidic fertilizer such as Citrus-tone April-September.
