Tart Cherry 'Montmorency' 7 Gallon

Tart Cherry 'Montmorency' 7 Gallon

Prunus cerasus 'Montmorency'

A popular sour cherry originally from France, 'Montmorency' produces medium sized, bright red, tangy fruit with a firm texture. White spring blossoms yield fruit in mid June that are perfect for baking and canning. Sour cherry tree varieties are generally self-fertile, and they grow a bit more compact than sweet cherry varieties, plus require about 1-2 years less to bear fruit. For better yields, plant another sour cherry nearby. They will fruit well within 3-5 years. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune in late winter to control size and form or after flowering. Remove dead or damaged stems at any time. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
