Burgundy Pearl® is a sweet cherry tree variety that produces medium to large sized, dark red, almost black fruit, known for its intense flavor and firm texture. It was released in 2008 by Cornell University. White spring blossoms yield fruit in mid to late June. Fruit do not ripen all at once, allowing multiple harvests over several days. Cross-pollination is required, so plant another sweet cherry such as 'Van' or 'Bing'. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune in late winter to control size and form or after flowering. Remove dead or damaged stems at any time. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
