A showy, flowering specimen with an upright to slightly rounded form filled with dark magenta buds in spring opening to medium, rose-pink flowers followed by small, half-inch, persistent, dark red fruit. Attractive foliage flushes out and remains purple all summer maturing to stunning reddish tones in autumn. Attracts pollinators, songbirds, and makes a great street tree or very cold-hardy specimen tree for narrow spaces or urban conditions. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in late winter or after flowering in spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a slow-release fertilizer, according to package directions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
