This flowering Korean dogwood variety possesses an elegant, horizontal branching habit covered in pointed, light to deep pink to rose pink flower bracts that develop late spring and later form 1", spherical, red berries that the birds enjoy. Dark green foliage turns yellow and scarlet in the fall uncovering unique, exfoliating gray bark for winter interest. More weather and disease resistant than Flowering Dogwood, use as specimens, street trees, in woodland gardens, and in shrub borders. Plant in well-drained, amended, acidic soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with an acidic fertilizer, according to package directions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
