Flowering Cherry Tree 'Higan' 10 Gallon

Flowering Cherry Tree 'Higan' 10 Gallon

Prunus x subhirtella

'Higan' flowering cherry tree is considered a parent or close relative of many of the popular varieties of flowering cherries including the pink double flowering 'Autumnalis Rosea' and white, weeping 'Snowfountain'. This long lived, larger, upright and spreading flowering cherry is covered in clusters of white to blush pink flowers in spring. Its green foliage turns golden yellow in fall, and winter reveals its shiny bronze bark and graceful, upright, spreading form in winter. This is an outstanding ornamental tree in the landscape, and makes an elegant specimen. Plant in well-drained, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water once a week the first year. Prune in late winter to control size and form or after flowering. Remove dead or damaged stems at any time. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
