Also known as annual Dianthus or Pinks, these easy-care, frost tolerant annuals/biennials typically produce low-growing, uniform mounds of medium green, grass-like foliage and single or double flowers in shades of white, pink, red, and violet with fringed or spotted petals. Dianthus make for wonderful cut flowers, showy edging and container garden plants grown with snapdragons and sweet alyssum. This fragrant variety displays fringed, single flowers comprised of scarlet red petals with deep red stripes. Plant in sunny but cool, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week, for the first year. Deadhead or shear, and fertilize, to encourage new blooms. They may self-seed. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
