Missouri Evening Primrose, also called Sundrops, put on a show from spring into summer developing showy, brilliant yellow, cupped flowers that open in the afternoon and bloom all night covering silvery green foliage. Evening primrose attract both butterflies and moths, are deer and rabbit resistant, drought tolerant once established, and low maintenance color for the front perennial border or in a rock garden. The blossoms are mildly fragrant and continuously bloom throughout summer. Combine with Echinacea, Dianthus, butterfly bush, and Salvia. Plant in well-drained, average to poor soil amended with compost or planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Apply a slow release fertilizer in spring and again midsummer. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in late summer to early fall as needed.
