Unlike many Black-Eyed Susans, this hybridized variety thrives in wet, humid climates. It offers fuzzy, disease-resistant leaves that are covered summer to fall frost in masses of classic, gold-and-black blooms. This variety is an herbaceous perennial with a compact, rounded form that works well in sunny gardens. Plant in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week, for the first year. Fertilize in spring. Deadhead spent flower stems for neat appearance. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall when necessary. In fall let seed self sow, cut back to new, developing growth in the spring.
