Miscanthus sinensis

'Morning Light' is regarded as one of the best cultivars of Japanese Silver Grass, Maiden Grass or Miscanthus. It's well known for its very narrow, fine textured, light green leaves with white variegated margins. Its foliage has an overall silvery appearance that forms a graceful, upright, vase shaped, clumping habit. Tiny reddish-copper tassel-like inflorescences appear above the foliage in mid to late September that can be cut and dried for flower arrangements. Combine with Perovskia, Rudbeckia and Joe-Pye Weed for a beautiful, sunny landscape border. Plant in well-drained, average to poor soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. In general, cut ornamental grasses down as low as possible in late winter. Divide in spring when necessary.
