Imperata cylindrica This short, upright, clumping grass produces bright green leaves with true, scarlet red tips that begin about halfway up the foliage. It's an excellent grass for sunny, front borders, Asian gardens, and patio containers. It rarely produces flowers/seed heads like other ornamental grasses, and may spread by underground runners (though not aggressively). Plant in sunny, well-drained to moist, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting, maintaining 1" of water, once per week, for the first year. Feed in spring or at the time of planting. Cut back as low as possible early spring. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring when necessary.
