This hybrid, spring blooming Anemone or windflower produces an abundance of graceful flower stems over bright green, mounded foliage. Each stem opens to a bright pink, five petal (sepal) flower with a yellow center. These spring bloomers flower longer than the species and may repeat bloom in the fall due to their sterile (non-seed producing) blossoms. They are perfect planted at the edge of a wooded site preferring shady spots where their rhizomatous roots can form spreading patches of these beautiful, cut flowers that are attractive to early pollinators, possess good deer resistance, and can grow in containers too. This plant can grow aggressively in loose soil, less so in clay soil. Combine with spring flowering bulbs, bleeding hearts, ferns and Heuchera. Plant in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water, once a week, for the first year. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose fertilizer. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds. Divide after blooming in spring or fall as needed.
