Acalypha pendula A fine textured, spreading/trailing, tropical houseplant that can be used as a colorful hanging basket or groundcover in part-shade to shade during the summer, producing bright red, fuzzy flowers periodically throughout the year part shade to shady areas, well-drained, evenly moist amended soil or containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote? or Plant-tone?. Follow label instructions. No deadheading needed, but may need to trim to maintain a tidy habit. Mulch 2" to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature. This plant can also be over wintered or grown indoors as a houseplant. Use as a "spiller" in shade combinations with SunPatiens (filler), Coleus and Caladium (thrillers), and Blue Lobelia (filler/spiller).
