Astilbe arendsii x japonica Also known as False Spirea, Astilbe is a staple for any dappled shade border or woodland garden. A great choice for any gardener wanting to achieve color and texture in shady areas where other flowers won't thrive. Younique™ Carmine is a compact and free-flowering variety that produces showy plumes of fragrant, fluffy flower spikes midsummer that emerge on slender, upright stems. Plant in moist, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter. Water well after planting, and maintain 1" of water, once per week, for the first year. Do not let them dry out. Use an all-purpose, slow-release maintenance fertilizer in spring or at planting, and repeat in summer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring every 3-4 years, after cutting back the foliage.
