Digitalis purpurea An All American Selection for its great biennial performance in blooming the first year from seed producing a beautiful mix of spotted pastel pink, violet and white tubular blossoms on sturdy flower stalks that are perfect in the cottage or cutting garden. Plant in moist, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like compost and planting mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Good shade tolerance and great deer resistance planted along with Astilbe, Ligularia and bee balm.
