Euphorbia pulcherrima Poinsettias are the most popular holiday plant in the United States with festive colors, speckled bracts, colored margins, or curled leaves. This artistic variety possesses cream colored bracts stippled in bright pink to deep red spots that become more dense and deepen in color over the entire bract. Natives of Mexico, Poinsettias prefer warmer indoor environments, but keep away from hot or cold, dry air drafts. Use to decorate your home or office for the holidays, and continue to care for it as a houseplant year round. Makes an excellent air purifier too. Keep in bright, indirect sunlight in temperatures around 60-70 degrees F. Avoid hot or cold drafts. Do not over water, Poinsettias like evenly moist to slightly dry soil. Watering with ice cubes works fine using one cube per one inch diameter of the pot, (e.g. 6" pot = 6 ice cubes). Continue growing as a houseplant after the holidays. It can be taken outdoors for the summer and back indoors for the winter. More "Poinsettia Pointers" are available in our Petitti Gardening Guides.
