Beloved for its shiny foliage and unique flowers, this indoor plant earns its name from the flower buds that emerge from dark-colored tubes, which resemble miniature tupes of lipstick. It appreciates being placed in a sunny window in kitchens, bathrooms, and dining rooms. Bright light is necessary to produce the flowers so, if you notice a lack of blooms, try moving the plant to a sunnier spot. This plant appreciates evenly moist soil but should not be permitted to get "wet feet" for any period of time, otherwise it may incur root rot. Fertilize monthly as directed on packaging during the active growing season, April through September.
