More sun and heat tolerant than English Ivy, Algerian Ivy possesses large, 5-8" wide, leathery, shield-shaped leaves that are spaced an inch or more on the vine. They create a dramatic trailing statement. Algerian Ivy is also more sun and heat tolerant than English Ivy. It is not a low-light plant, and variegated varieties will lose their unique patterns if left to grow in a low-light spot in the home. Like many houseplants, Ivy prefers to dry out a bit between waterings, so water only when the top inch of soil is dry and avoid the tendency to overwater. Moist air can be helpful for this plant, so providing a humidity tray is a great option. Grow in well-drained, evenly moist to slightly dry soil in containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote? or Plant-tone?. Follow label instructions. Trim as needed to encourage a tidy habit. Annual/houseplant types require wintering over indoors after one or two fall frosts.
