Ferns are a classic shade plant family with numerous tropical/houseplant varieties. All are excellent as air purifying container plants, beautiful growing in hanging baskets, or displayed in terrariums, a humid bathroom or kitchen. Kangaroo Paw fern displays a vigorous clump of upright, strap-like, bright green fronds on dark brown, wiry petioles. Its foliage exhibits a slightly waxy coating that allows it to tolerate brighter and drier conditions along with its fuzzy, deep brown colored, creeping rhizomes that will spill over the edges of its pot. This is a tropical fern that grows best in well-drained potting mix. Grow in bright to medium, indirect lighting from an eastern or northern exposure window, or under fluorescent lighting. Prefers cool to average household temperatures, 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray mist regularly and keep soil evenly moist to slightly dry. Supply extra humidity by setting on a shallow tray of moistened pebbles. Feed with indoor plant fertilizer April-September per package instructions. Grow indoors over winter.
