Winged Sumac is a multi-stemmed shrub which occurs on hillsides and dryer soil. It spreads by root suckers to form large colonies. Leaves are shiny green, turning bright red in fall. Plants are either male or female. 'Creel's Quintet' is a female variety, compact, has glossy green leaves in groups of five, and burgundy-red fall color.
