Cascading, weeping branches grace this petite yet tough, easy to grow ornamental tree, which bears small, yellow, pea-like flowers in spring. Bright green, lacy leaves create a lovely fern-like texture that highlights the flowers and shows off its shiny golden bark. This small specimen is perfect for pollinator gardens, poor soils, hot and drier locations, and can tolerate salt and extreme cold down to negative 50 degrees F. Plant in average to moist, well-drained, amended soils. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Prune in spring immediately after flowering to control size, and remove stray shoots or damaged limbs anytime. Feed early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
