Tiger Eyes® is a beautiful golden-leafed form of cutleaf staghorn sumac. New growth is a lively chartreuse green that quickly changes to yellow with both colors contrasting nicely with the rosy-pink leaf stems. Branches angle upward while the deeply cut leaflets drape downward. As magnificent as the summer colors are, the dramatic effect of yellow, orange, and intense scarlet in autumn is unparalleled. Tiger Eyes® tolerates a wide range of soils and urban conditions, making it the perfect focal point or mass planting across landscapes. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; shapes itself nicely. Remove dead branches or trunk suckers any time. Feed early spring and mid-summer with a slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
