Elderberry 'Black Tower' 3 Gallon

Elderberry 'Black Tower' 3 Gallon

Sambucus nigra 'Eiffel 1'

This upright, deciduous shrub creates a beautiful garden spire with its burgundy colored foliage and soft, lacey, cut-leaf edges similar to that of Japanese Maples. Bright pink flowers in late spring/early summer are followed by black-red berries when pollinated by anoter compatible Elderberry variety, and this fruit provides food for wildlife. Berries may also be harvested for making elderberry wine and jam. Elderberry plants are adaptable and work well in shrub borders, as specimen plants, or as backdrop for perennials. Plant in well-drained to moist, amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1? of water once a week the first year. Prune after flowering to control size. Remove dead branches at any time. Feed at least twice during the growing season with a slow release fertilizer in early spring and again mid-summer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2? to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
