Cotoneaster 'Tom Thumb' 3 Gallon

Cotoneaster 'Tom Thumb' 3 Gallon

Cotoneaster apiculatus

'Tom Thumb' is an easy to grow, slightly mounding, deciduous shrub with dense, stiffly arching, spreading branches. Small pink flowers are followed by bright red berries that persist into winter. This shrub can be used as a salt-tolerant groundcover, attract pollinators or serve as erosion control. Attractive sprawling over rocks in a rock garden or over stone walls. Plant with Roses, Junipers and Creeping Phlox. It prefers average to moist, well-drained soils. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Little pruning needed; remove damaged or undesirable branches late winter/early spring. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose slow release fertilizer. Follow label instructions. Mulch 2 inches to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
