American Bladdernut is a fast-growing native plant that grows in dry to moist soils or wetlands as an understory large shrub or small tree. It has a suckering habit, and in nature it can form dense thickets. White flowers appear in clusters in spring, and become papery oval seed capsules containing a small nut-like seed that gives the plant its common name.
