As it matures, this variety produces a few one-inch, round, woody and prickly fruits. Best used in small garden spaces, along property lines, or as a vertical specimen. Sweetgum trees are native to Ohio, preferring moist soils but tolerates wet and some dry soils. Plant with sun tolerant natives at its base including Coreopsis, Rudbeckia, and creeping phlox.
