Red Mulberry is the North American native version on white mulberry. Prefers moist soils but well-drained soils, best in full sun. Large variab;e leaves may be unlobed, mitten shaped, or multiple-lobed. Yellow leaves in fall. Plants are either male of female - female plants wind polinated by a male produce abundant blackberry-like red to dark purple fruits. Fruit is edible to humans and may be eaten straight off the tree or in jellies or jams. Birds love the fruit but there are usually plenty to share.
