Lupine are an unforgettable sight and a wonderfully fragrant pollinator attractant in the late spring and early summer perennial border or sunny cottage garden. The long-lasting flowers of the Staircase™ series will re-bloom throughout the season until the nighttime temperatures rise above 72 degrees F. Tall spires of dark purple and navy blue flowers appear on this variety which make for excellent cut flowers. Combines well with Creeping Phlox, Shasta Daisies, and Russian Sage. Plant in cool, well-drained, slightly acidic, deeply amended soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water once a week the first year. Deadhead flowers to induce branching and additional buds and blooms. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with an acidic fertilizer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Cut or deadhead regularly to encourage new blooms. Divide in early spring when necessary.
