Aka Soapwort, is a hardy, perennial groundcover with grey-green, lance shaped foliage that is topped with medium to deep pink, five petal flowers in late spring to early summer forming a soft, mounding to spreading habit. This plant is best suited for well-drained, sunny to dry areas and rock gardens. It is also very cold tolerant, and prefers northern climates and cooler summer temperatures. In containers, it serves well as a lovely trailing "spiller". Combines well with Sedum, Dianthus, and other rock garden species. Plant in well-drained, dry to average, slightly basic soil amended with organic matter. Water well after planting; maintain 1 inch of water, once a week the first year. Use slow-release fertilizer in spring or at planting, and again in summer. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Shear back to rebloom; it may self seed. Divide in spring or fall when necessary.
