Sea Holly 'Big Blue' 1 Gallon

Sea Holly 'Big Blue' 1 Gallon

Eryngium x zabelii

This hybrid sea holly produces vibrant, bright blue to violet, spikey flowers and bracts June to August, and into fall if deadheaded. Thistle-like, basal leaves form a spikey, green clump. Sea holly is very drought tolerant, preferring well-drained soil. Excellent cut and dried flower. Its deep taproot can make transplanting and dividing very challenging. An excellent butterflies and bee attractant, very low maintenance. Plant with other cottage and cutting garden flowers including coreopsis, Shasta daisies, and bee balm. Plant in well-drained, average to poor soil. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week the first year. Use slow release fertilizer in spring or at planting; reapply midsummer. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.
