Hollyhocks are classic, cottage garden favorites offering 4-5" wide, single or double blossoms, in a wide variety of colors on sturdy, towering spikes that can grow 4-8' tall. 'Spring Celebrities Purple' is noted for its shorter stature than most varieties, and its sturdy spikes of large, double, rich purple flowers that bloom from mid to late summer. Plant in well-drained to moist, acidic, nutrient rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week, for the first year. Deadhead this biennial/perennial to keep a clean appearance, but let some seed develop and drop. Mulch 1-2" to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture. Divide in spring or fall.
