This is a wonderfully cold hardy chrysanthemum series developed at the University of Minnesota, tolerating -30 degree temperatures over the winter. There are several colorful varieties that develop compact, cushion-like habits that are covered with single to doubled daisy-like mums that provide excellent late summer to fall color, pollinator attraction, and frost tolerance. They grow well in both containers and the landscape with no deadheading or pinching needed. Combine with ornamental grasses, Sedum, and Agastache for a spectacular fall display. 'Mammoth Lavender Daisy' displays abundant violet-pink daisy mums that cover uniform mounds of medium green foliage. Plant in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil amended with organic matter like Petitti Planting Mix. Water well after planting; maintain 1" of water, once a week, for the first year. Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer with a multipurpose fertilizer. Mulch 1-2 inches to suppress weeds. Cut back to new growth in spring. Divide in spring every 3-4 years.
